Promotions
Use this site to build your promotion packet and understand the steps to getting promoted.
PV1 through SPC
These promotions are automatic unless the Commander denies the promotion and provides a valid reason or you are flagged for adverse actions.
PV1 to PV2
PV2 to PFC
PFC to SPC
SPC to SGT
To promote from SPC to SGT you must first meet the time criteria below. The secondary zone is a chance to promote early if you exhibit exceptional skills and leadership and requires the approval of the commander. The primary zone is when you should be ready for promotion with your peers. The normal process when you hit your time criteria is to submit a “board packet”. That gets approved by the unit and sent to the next board that convenes. The board will review your packet and then decide to add you to the PPRL (Promotion Recommend List) or not. All soldiers recommended will be ordered on the PPRL by point total and MOS. You get points by going to schools over 40 hours, scoring higher on your APFT, scoring higher on you weapons qual, having civilian education, and achieving academic honors at military schools. However, getting on the PPRL and having a lot of points does not guarantee a promotion if you don’t have other criteria met. See below.
*The CLI is the Command List Integration process. If you have 47 months in service and 23 months in grade you will be automatically added to the PPRL if you meet the “Additional Criteria” below. However, you will be added with the minimum point total 39. The commander can block your addition if you have flags or for other reasons they must justify.
Additional Criteria To Make PPRL
- SSD1 or DLC1 completed
- Fully qualified in your MOS
- High School Diploma, GED, Associates Degree, or higher degree

- Not in the Army Body Composition Program (height/weight failure)
- No negative flags or disciplinary actions
